If Chelsea is successful in acquiring Harry Kane from Tottenham this summer, according to Tim Sherwood, they will be title challengers in the Premier League.
Sherwood made the intriguing claim that if Chelsea or Manchester United bought Harry Kane, they would be second- or third-choice favourites for the league title behind Manchester City.
Kane has so far scored 27 goals in all competitions despite playing for a Spurs team that has had ups and downs this season.
There isn't a more dependable striker to score in England's top division than the 29-year-old center-forward, who is now tied for second all-time in Premier League goals scored.
Sherwood remarked of Kane: "I think he's got a tough decision to make" on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast (4 May). He bleeds Tottenham, and he adores the team, but in the end, he needs to win championships. If I were you, I would want to join the team that I thought had the best chance of winning a trophy, and I believe that will either be Manchester United or Chelsea.
Kane is a game-changer, so if you add him to Manchester United or Chelsea, they immediately become the league's second favourite behind Manchester City. He has been scoring 20 goals every season for almost 10 years, is reliable, and is familiar with the Premier League, so he is not a one-hit wonder.
It's important to note that Chelsea has been mentioned in connection with a bold trade for Kane.
Last month, TalkSPORT reported that Daniel Levy, the chairman of Tottenham, was preparing himself for a Kane bid from Chelsea this summer. They say that the anticipated hiring of Mauricio Pochettino as Blues manager would raise interest.
Earlier this year, The Times reported that Spurs would only consider selling Kane for an upfront payment of £100 million.
Naturally, fans will be thrilled by the prospect of a prolific scorer like Kane wearing Chelsea jerseys in the upcoming campaign. But is the idea that he will leave Tottenham and relocate elsewhere in London realistic?
Regarding speculation of winning the Premier League, Chelsea has previously launched title bids out of the blue. Considering how horrible things have been this season, it doesn't seem like this can be replicated next year.
