Following Todd Boehly's £52 million decision, Mauricio Pochettino has his first Chelsea signing "confirmed."
Chelsea scouting reports: The Blues might already be in possession of the solution to their season-long issues in front of goal.
If Mauricio Pochettino is officially named Chelsea's new manager, he will have a hectic first few months ahead of him because the Blues' summer transfer window is expected to be crucial. As Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital continue to restructure the team, moves both inside and outside the club are likely to occur.
It is of the utmost importance to add a natural striker to the first-team roster given Chelsea's goal-scoring struggles this season. The Blues are also looking to upgrade their alternatives at the center midfielder and goalkeeper positions.
No Chelsea player has scored more than ten goals in a season, which amplifies the demand for that goal-scoring option. Fortunately for Pochettino, the issue might already be resolved before his anticipated arrival.
Another player whose arrival at Chelsea is anticipated is Christopher Nkunku, whose transfer from RB Leipzig for west London has all but been finalized. The agreement was finalized around the end of 2022, with the Blues required to pay a sum close to £50 million.
The Leipzig sporting director Max Eberl told BILD in 2022: "The signs are very, very clear that he's moving to Chelsea." This was the clearest indication of his projected arrival to that point. In terms of his future, Nkunku might think of it as a blessing that the trade was finalized so long ago considering how injured the Frenchman has been this year.
Despite this, he has scored 18 goals in 30 games, including his 13th league goal this past weekend. Nkunku scored the opening goal for Leipzig against Hoffenheim in his first start in nearly two months with a deft close-range finish.
With the tight victory that Nkunku achieved for Leipzig, that goal proved to be crucial as Leipzig moved closer to the Champions League qualification spots. The match's victor was hailed by Leipzig manager Marco Rose after the game, and it looked that he also announced his intention to leave the team at the end of the current campaign.
According to Rose, who spoke to the media, "That (winning goal) should give him a boost for the next few weeks - for his last few weeks with us."
