According to Lampard, Chelsea may benefit from how Arsenal rebuilt.
May 1, London In advance of tomorrow's game between the two clubs, interim manager Frank Lampard suggested that Arsenal's recent success in the Premier League should serve as a model for Chelsea's effort to rebuild following a dismal season.
Despite their new US owners' significant investment, Chelsea's 2-0 loss to Brentford last week left them in 12th place and on the verge of possibly having their worst season since finishing 14th under Glenn Hoddle in 1993-94.
Tomorrow, Chelsea will play Arsenal, a team that failed to make the top four for six consecutive seasons from 2016 to 2022 but is now involved in a heated title chase after making tremendous progress under manager Mikel Arteta.
"Getting to where you want to go involves a lengthy procedure. Before the trip to the Emirates Stadium, Lampard told reporters, "I remember facing Mikel in that early period.
"They used to play four or five at the back, but they now have a distinct identity. A lot of work has been put on the team, Mikel, alignment, and effective recruitment. Do we have the option to carry that out? Yes. Will it require patience and wise choices? Definitely, sure. Yet you can travel there.
"The procedure can take two or three years, and the manager, players, and owners were all questioned. They are a fantastic illustration of that being done well.
Despite acknowledging that Chelsea's players are "low on confidence" as a result of their recent struggles, Lampard urged his team to work hard to make up for their lack of self-assurance.
"You can only work to get a level of performance to bring confidence back," stated Lampard.
"Nobody enjoys losing games, so I've been here when confidence has been low. As a player, there were times when our collective standards were lowered, and we had to raise them.
