Frank Lampard, the manager of Chelsea, believes his team can overcome its first-leg deficit to Real Madrid in the Champions League, promising that "special things can happen at Stamford Bridge."

The Blues lost 2-0 at Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of their quarterfinal, and Ben Chilwell's red card left them down to 10 men.

Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio's goals give Carlo Ancelotti's team the lead going into the return match in London the following week.

However, Lampard believes his team has what it takes to turn things around and says they just need to regain confidence in their own abilities.

The ten lads, I'm proud of them, he told BT Sport. "I believe that they split us open with 10 men. There are some positive aspects, but the truth is the outcome.

"I just told the guys [in the locker room] that Stamford Bridge is a place where extraordinary things can happen. They have a great squad, but we have to have faith in them.

"It has been a trying time for them. A slight lack of belief is present. I believe that the gamers need to be aware of their abilities and skill level.

"Next week will be a fight, but maybe we lack a little of that [self-belief]. In other mental states, we must be far more optimistic.

"I took part in those Stamford Bridge nights. I'm disappointed with the outcome as of this week, but we press on.

On his way to helping Chelsea win the Champions League title for the first time in 2012, Lampard scored in the 4-1 second-leg triumph over Napoli in the round of 16.
