Steven Gerrard was left disappointed by the performance of Fikayo Tomori in the Champions League last night.
According to him, the former Chelsea defender didn't rise to the occasion last night at the San Siro. He said as much to BT Sport.

It was a tough night for Tomori, as AC Milan were left on the brink of elimination following a 2-0 defeat to Inter Milan in the first leg of the semi-final.

He was especially labouring up against strikers Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez, despite them not generally being rated as the elite in Europe.

The Englishman has been receiving plenty of praise across the game after making the move from Stamford Bridge, notably winning Serie A last season.

But struggles have frequently resulted from playing on a big stage, as was the case when he was dismissed against Chelsea earlier this season.

Gerrard is not a fan of Tomori
Gerrard has suggested that his performance will have also done his international chances no favours at all.

"Rio, I was just curious as to your opinion of the two centre backs for AC Milan," he said. We obviously gave the big build up to Tomori tonight, all eyes would have been on him. I’m sure Gareth Southgate would have been watching him.

“What was your opinion on his performance? We were slightly disappointed. We thought he struggled tonight despite our desire for him to perform, really step forward, and seize the moment.

In West London, there was initially a lot of resentment surrounding the sale of the 25-year-old, but the prospects for the position at the club should give them hope.

They already have Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile in their ranks, and Levi Colwill will be joining them starting at the end of the current season.
