Lampard claims he wasn't disparaging Graham Potter's fitness regimen, but he does acknowledge that some of the players lack speed.
After Saturday's loss to Brighton, Frank Lampard criticized his players' physical fitness. This received some headlines because it was interpreted as a criticism of Graham Potter, who has been in charge of the team's physical preparation for the most of the season.
When Lampard was questioned about it today, he made it plain that his intention was not to criticize Potter. However, it's also difficult to imagine how it might be anything other. The interim coach pointed out that much of it had to do with "individual responsibility," possibly placing more blame on the players than the coaching staff.
The manager of Chelsea is heard speaking in the following clip:
🗣️ “I think that’s how you’ve taken it on that side. When I’m talking like that I’m not blaming anyone.”
