Mason Mount's Chelsea contract clause could influence him to transfer to Liverpool
Due to a contract clause at Chelsea, Mason Mount might have a higher chance of joining Liverpool in the summer.

Following Chelsea's Champions League elimination and a rumoured 30% wage cut for several of the team, Mason Mount may be getting closer to joining Liverpool in the summer.

The England international has not yet signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge despite soon nearing the final year of his present one, therefore it is not believed that he will be one of the players whose pay will be reduced.

Chelsea, who are presently ranked 11th in the Premier League, were eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday night by Real Madrid. Owner Todd Boehly implemented a new bonus scheme, which means that everybody who joined or signed a new contract since the American took over will see their pay reduced.

Due to the team's failure to make the Champions League, Mount would have to accept a 30% pay cut if he decided to stay at Stamford Bridge longer.

According to reports, the 24-year-old makes £80,000 per week at Chelsea and is eager to sign a deal for £250,000 to remain in West London. According to the Express, Mount is believed to have recently rejected a contract offer of £200,000 per week.

It appears doubtful that Mount will get the deal he wants at a time when Boehly has to reduce player salaries at Chelsea. As a result, it is expected that Mount will be sold in the summer rather than be given the freedom to go for free in 2024, with Jurgen Klopp thought to be first in line to acquire the midfielder.

Since he was six years old, Mount has been a player for Chelsea, but if he cannot come to terms with a new deal at Stamford Bridge before the summer, it is thought that he would like to play for Klopp at Liverpool.
