MONACO'S PAUL MITCHELL ANNOUNCES THAT MALANG SARR WILL RETURN TO CHELSEA.
Malang Sarr (24), who now plays for the Principality club, won't be playing for them next season, according to AS Monaco Sporting Director Paul Mitchell. The Frenchman signed a season-long loan agreement with Les Monégasques last summer, with an option to make the move permanent.
After a mainly disastrous loan stint with the Principality Club, it was anticipated that Monaco would not use the provision in Sarr's loan. Only 17 times this season hath the former OGC Nice centre defender appeared for Monaco, a pitiful total given Benoit Badiashile's midseason transfer to Chelsea.
Sarr has had fitness issues throughout his career, but even when healthy, Guillermo Maripán and Badiashile have been favoured. He played against Stade de Reims on March 12 in his penultimate game for Monaco before suffering an injury that kept him out until the conclusion of the campaign. The Frenchman had surgery quite lately.
Alexander Nübel's return to Bayern Munich has also been officially announced, however it is still unclear what will happen to Thomas Didillon, who is presently on loan from Belgian side Cercle Brugge.
"Unfortunately, Malang (Sarr) sustained a muscular abdominal injury while training a few months ago, making him unavailable for selection for a considerable amount of time. Once more, Alex will be at Bayern Munich. Thomas, we haven't decided what we're going to do yet. In a roundtable discussion with Get French Football News at Monaco's Performance Centre in La Turbie, Mitchell stated that Malang had already returned to Chelsea.
