Mason Mount's Chelsea transfer story receives an eleventh-hour twist
Several Premier League teams, including Chelsea, will find this summer's transfer market to be quite exciting.
The Blues must seriously impact the market, both in terms of player sales and purchases, probably more so than most other teams.
Given that the Argentinean may not like the existing composition of his squad, having Mauricio Pochettino in charge for Chelsea definitely alters the situation.
The atmosphere at the Cobham training facility won't be the best with so many players having to be moved away as well.
Owner Todd Boehly, who evidently believed he could spend more than €600 million (per transfermarkt) on just about any player he wanted, bears a large portion of the guilt for such an overstuffed first team.
That idea was rapidly dispelled, and by the conclusion of the season, Frank Lampard, the Blues' third manager of the 2022–23 campaign after Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter, had made them an embarrassment.
Now that the season is over, it's time for the team to focus on the future rather than the past. Surprisingly, Pochettino seems to want to keep Mason Mount.
There have reportedly been internal discussions at Chelsea that indicate the Argentinian wants to keep Mount at Stamford Bridge regardless of whether Mount signs a new deal or not, according to sources who spoke to Simon Phillips and were discussed on his Si and Dan Talk Chelsea Substack.
