Mason Mount reverses course on Chelsea with a naive transfer planned as Man City reach a $120 million agreement.
The most recent media briefing on Chelsea transfer news includes updates and commentary on articles about Mason Mount, Manchester United, and Manchester City.
The Football.london transfer briefing is now open. We have the newest noises coming from social media, journalists, and so-called ITKs, collecting together what's on in the world of the Blues, to assist you stay on top of everything Chelsea going on in the market.
Man City's offer
After reaching a personal agreement with the outstanding center-back from RB Leipzig, Josko Gvardiol, Manchester City is moving forward significantly in its pursuit of his services. He made an impression with Croatia at the World Cup and was expected to sign with Chelsea last year.
According to recent reports, Leipzig are now insisting that any deal this year achieve a comparable threshold since a £95 million ($120 million) release clause will become activated next summer. The player's interest in City didn't become widely known until December; up until then, Chelsea was still in the running.
The center-back position is by no means Chelsea's biggest problem this year, according to football.london. There is no lack of depth there, even with the sale of Kalidou Koulibaly and Cesar Azpilicueta. Being a left-footed player in the same position, Levi Colwill's comeback is eagerly awaited, and it's understandable why.
Gvardiol is one of the most exciting players in his position, and for good reason, but given the cost, Chelsea does not need to make the purchase. But the fact that City will be bolstering their already powerful team with such strength is concerning.
That shouldn't be a major source of concern for Chelsea. Gvardiol is definitely not one of those problems; they have much greater ones to cope with.
Mt. U-turn
The summer's tale is still perplexing and confusing. Mason Mount was the subject of a third offer from Manchester United costing approximately £55 million ($69.9 million), which Chelsea reportedly turned down. Since then, it has been claimed that Chelsea intends to completely back out of the agreement.
Some people are now claiming that Mount will remain at Chelsea this summer and has never really wanted to leave. Other reports, meanwhile, claim that United will consider Moises Caicedo as a replacement and that they are dissatisfied with Chelsea's negotiating strategies.
This is exhausting, according to football.london. Due to the widely divergent accounts of Mount, most of it has turned into a PR stunt for all three sides rather than actual advancement. Chelsea will claim that they welcomed additional discussions and were open to Mount regarding an offer that was on the table.
Mount and his group will claim that they have no offer or that it is inadequate in comparison to what existed prior to December and that ties have been irreparably damaged. United only needs to pay $76.2 million ($60 million) to acquire the player. It's challenging to discern the truth amidst all the PR and briefing squabbles.
How much Mount genuinely wants to play for Chelsea will soon be made evident. If he reports for preseason in July, there is a good chance that Mauricio Pochettino would persuade him to stay at the team longer. If not, it will become known right away, and the next head coach won't hesitate to do his part to get rid of the player.
What is evident is that if Caicedo is United's second choice behind Mount for a comparable position, they are the ones who have little idea what they're doing.
