Mason Mount may achieve his goal. conditional upon wearing a Manchester United jersey number

Prior to a probable move, Man United and Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount have reached a personal agreement.

Raphael Varane may switch numbers with Mason Mount if Mason Mount wants to wear his favoured No. 19 for Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Mount is the first player United has brought in during the summer transfer season as they attempt to strengthen Erik ten Hag's midfield. The 24-year-old is searching for employment after his contract extension talks with Chelsea came to a standstill.

United are eager to comply, and according to MEN Sport, Mount and personal agreements have been reached. Although it is believed that Tony Mount and Neil Fewings, Mount's agent, have had preliminary talks with United, the two clubs have not yet reached an agreement on a transfer fee.

After a season in which he primarily leaned on new acquisitions Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, Ten Hag wants to acquire another capable midfielder. Since both are in their 30s, the Dutchman also wants to bring down the average age of his midfield due to the clear decline in quality when either of them was out.

Jude Bellingham and Frenkie de Jong, two ideal additions, are no longer possible, so Mount has become a compelling substitute. The international for England has won both the Club World Cup and the Champions League with Chelsea. He also started in Chelsea's three consecutive FA Cup final losses between 2020 and 2022 as well as their League Cup final loss to Liverpool on penalties the previous year.

There aren't many numbers available for new newcomers this summer due to United's large roster, including Mount's No. 19. He has wore it for the entirety of his tenure with Chelsea's main team, in competitions for England, and when on loan at Vitesse Arnhem.

Varane is using the number at Old Trafford right now, but it could be set to become accessible just in time. The No. 4 jersey will soon be empty at United for the first time since 2011, as Phil Jones will be departing the team once his contract expires.

From 2012 until his final match, France's dramatic World Cup final loss to Argentina, Varane continuously wore the number for the team. Given its popularity as a defensive player's number, the 30-year-old may decide to wear it this summer, freeing up the No. 19 for Mount to don.

The final step is to get Mount signed.
