Chelsea announces 13 player departures, among them a £35 million failed midfielder.

13 players will be leaving Chelsea this summer, according to the club, as Tiemoue Bakayoko's time there comes to an end.

The French midfielder only played 43 times after signing for £35 million in 2017, as he was promptly loaned out to AC Milan, Napoli, and his former club Monaco.

Due to his poor form and a clause requiring them to sign him permanently if he made a specific amount of games, Milan decided not to play Bakayoko for extended periods of time during the 2017–18 campaign.

In January, Chelsea debated dismissing the player, but decided to keep him on the books to

until the conclusion of June, when his agreement will be over.

Bakayoko's release was officially announced in the Blues' retained list, which was made public on Friday.

The quote from the announcement was, "We thank Tiemoue for his contribution during his season at Stamford Bridge."

Also leaving the academy are other players, notably Dujon Sterling, who has already committed to Rangers.

The following individuals have also been freed: Derrick Abu, Prince Adegoke, Nathan Baxter, Juan Familia-Castillo, Byran Fiabema, Joe Haigh, Henry Lawrence, Sam McClelland, Amari Thomas Silko, Ethan Wady, and Jayden Wareham.
