The Uruguayan international midfielder Manuel Ugarte has joined Premier League team Chelsea.

He will depart Sporting Lisbon in search of greener pastures and eventually join Mauricio Pochettino's team at Stamford Bridge.

The French Ligue 1 powerhouse PSG made a bigger offer to the 22-year-old Ugarte, but the midfielder ultimately chose the Blues. They reportedly planned to give him an additional €5 million annually.

A €60 million release clause and an additional €5 million reward were purportedly included in his contract should he reach a specific goal total. Ugarte will reportedly get €3.5 million a year at Chelsea.

According to reports, the two clubs and Jorge Mendes and Jorge Chijane, Manu's advisors, have been in talks for almost two weeks

He won't be playing for Chelse in Europe next season, but he will still have to compete against teams like today's FA Cup champions Manchester City.

Ugarte first relocated to the Portuguese capital in 2021 from Famalico FC. He played 85 times for Sporting during his time there, winning the Allianz Cup in 2021 while donning the fabled green and white jersey.
