Arsenal agrees Havertz deal but has to cope with £15m Chelsea challenge
FootballTransfers can reveal that Arsenal is making a strong effort to recruit Kai Havertz from Chelsea, but there is still a big difference in the two teams' estimated values.
On Wednesday, rumours of a potential transfer between the two Premier League heavyweights for the 24-year-old player surfaced. The player has struggled to live up to his £75 million (€80 million) price tag at Stamford Bridge since signing a five-year agreement from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2020.
Havertz, a player that manager Mikel Arteta has long liked, was originally connected to Real Madrid as a Karim Benzema replacement. However, Arsenal are currently dominating the fight for Havertz.
All involved parties, including Chelsea, want to close this deal. Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of the Blues, is putting growing pressure on them to offload players so he can start bringing in new ones. The Blues cannot make acquisitions until they have made a sale.
As it has been noted previously, both Havertz and Arsenal are interested in signing him.
Jorginho, a former midfielder for Chelsea, has been negotiating with the player to sell to the Emirates club.
already has a contract
There is still a chasm between the teams when it comes to agreeing on a transfer cost, according to sources close to the deal who told FootballTransfers that personal terms have already been agreed upon between the Gunners and the German international attacker. The £15 million valuation difference.
According to reports, Chelsea is seeking about £70 million for the player.
When he was at Leverkusen, Arsenal was interested in Havertz. Due to his versatility, which enables him to play in a variety of positions, Arteta is a huge admirer of the player and believes he would be a great contribution to the team.
Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka may not be under as much strain thanks to him because he can play wide right and down the middle.
While focusing on bolstering their midfield, where Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo remain objectives, Arsenal and Arteta are working arduously to complete this transaction.
