Should Chelsea fire Frank Lampard?

Chelsea, under the direction of Frank Lampard, have dropped all five of their most recent games in all competitions; as a result, they are currently 12th in the Premier League standings, just nine points above the relegation zone.

This is a rather bad run of form by Chelsea's high standards; in fact, less than a month after Lampard took the position, some Chelsea fans have started calling for his dismissal.

Chelsea has played five games and suffered five losses under Lampard this year. Additionally, they have only managed to score one goal while he has been in charge.

With only four games left in the current Premier League season, the idea of firing Lampard at this point may seem absurd, but it has happened before. Javi Gracia was named as Leeds United's manager in late February, but Sam Allardyce, a former manager of West Ham and Newcastle United, is already in line to take his position.

Leeds, though, finds itself in a totally different situation than Chelsea. While relegation for the Blues isn't logically impossible (even if they lose all of their remaining league games), the Whites are currently fighting for their Premier League lives.

Thus, despite Lampard's poor track record, a hasty appointment at this point would be foolish. Instead of choosing a manager at the drop of a hat, Chelsea should look ahead to the upcoming campaign and make sure they get the best candidate.
