It is legit Romano made a statement on a Chelsea talent who is valued at £40 million and has links to PL rivals.

Mateo Kovacic, a midfielder for Chelsea, is reportedly being chased by rival Premier League clubs as well as German teams, claims transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The international footballer from Croatia is approaching the end of his current deal at Stamford Bridge, and according to Romano, interest in the player is growing because there is no indication of a new agreement:

There are no talks about a new contract for Kovacic at the present, so his departure is a real possibility. Of course, clubs in England and Germany are interested in signing him, but Chelsea's high asking price prevents any progress. They do not want to hand away players. They are opposed to loaning out players.

Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool have also been named as prospective bidders for Kovacic. Bayern Munich is also interested in the 29-year-old, with manager Thomas Tuchel hoping to reunite with the player.

Romano notes that Chelsea won't allow the midfielder depart on the cheap, either. We'll see who's willing to put up the money because the Blues are reportedly holding out for about £40 million.

What justifies allowing Kovacic to depart Chelsea?
Given that the Blues want to develop a youthful team and that Kovacic is almost 30 years old, it wouldn't make much sense to sign him to a long-term agreement.

Allowing him to depart seems like the financially wise decision because he is now making £100,000 per week, and you would anticipate that he would want a pay increase as well as a lengthy extension.
