It appears that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will depart Chelsea this summer after saying he would rather go back to Barcelona than stay at Stamford Bridge.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has declared his intention to resign from Chelsea this summer and join Barcelona, whom he left a year ago.

Aubameyang failed to make an impression upon returning to the Premier League after his £10.5 million transfer from the Camp Nou to Stamford Bridge last September, and he is eager to leave the club, with Barca keeping an eye on his situation.

Aubameyang, 33, joined the Blues on the final day of the transfer window last summer, reuniting him with former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel was fired a week later, and the striker has struggled ever since. Since November, he has only started one game.

Only 15 months ago, the former Borussia Dortmund striker moved from Arsenal to Barca by forgoing a portion of his income. On the day of the transfer deadline, his contract at the Gunners was canceled to enable him to finalize his move to the Camp Nou.

Aubameyang had a good goal tally of 13 goals in 24 games for Xavi's team, but Robert Lewandowski's arrival in the summer put him to the bottom of the pecking order and came before his return to London, where he signed for Chelsea on the final day of the summer transfer window.

In favor of newer arrivals in West London, the Gabonese striker was left off Chelsea's Champions League roster. Graham Potter, the manager at the time, was willing to approve Aubameyang's departure, and despite the manager's subsequent firing, it now seems very probable that Aubameyang will leave this summer.

He now says he intends to rejoin the Catalan club this summer. In a video that has surfaced, a fan asks the striker what he expects to happen this summer. Aubameyang initially dodges the issue, but when prodded, he says, "I would like to return to Barca, but we will see what happens."

Given Chelsea's goal-scoring issues and scarcity of central striker options, Aubameyang's shortcomings there are even more evident. The Gabonese was the sole recognized central striker, despite the fact that they had a ton of attack-minded players on their roster.

The uncertainty in the Chelsea coaching staff, his affiliation with Arsenal, and the departure of Tuchel have all contributed to the striker at Stamford Bridge having a challenging season. The well-known financial issues at Barcelona, though, might make a return to the team this summer impossible.
