Jamie O'Hara, a former midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur, has provided an explanation of why he does not believe Mauricio Pochettino is the "right man" for Chelsea.
Since Graham Potter was fired as the Blues' permanent manager at the beginning of last month, the team has been looking for a replacement.
Under the interim leadership of Frank Lampard, Chelsea has dropped six straight matches across all competitions.
Initially considered for the Chelsea job were Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique, but Pochettino has subsequently emerged as the favourite to take over at Stamford Bridge.
Since leaving PSG at the conclusion of the previous season, the former Spurs head coach has been unemployed. After leading Tottenham to their first Champions League final, he is beloved by the club's supporters.
Chelsea is presently 12th in the table, so Pochettino has a big job on his shoulders. It will be expected of him to eventually develop them into a squad that regularly contends for the Premier League championship.
O'Hara has forewarned Pochettino that the players at Chelsea "won't be up for his style of football" and that "fans will turn on him really quickly" at the club.
O'Hara told Grosvenor Sport, "I believe it's insane that Mauricio Pochettino may be moving to Chelsea.
"I don't think it will work because he is a Spurs fan," I said. If things doesn't go well, the Chelsea supporters will rapidly turn against him, and he needs to get the best out of that set of players who, in my opinion, are soft.
"Those guys also won't be able to play the kind of game he wants to play. Pochettino is not the proper coach for Chelsea in my opinion, and I predict that they will be far from competitive again next season.
O'Hara is still "gutted" that Pochettino is moving to Chelsea and says it is "typical Daniel Levy" to have permitted the Argentinian to join Tottenham's competitors.
"We said it was a bit of a no-lose situation for Frank Lampard returning to Chelsea, but they're losing every week and can't score a goal," said O'Hara.
"The club has lost its identity and DNA, and it suddenly appears to be broken. Lampard was brought in to try and bring some of it back, but nothing has worked. In terms of strategy, they are still far behind. Chelsea is currently on its knees and is like a poisoned chalice.
I'm a little bummed that Pochettino has joined them. The club had been waiting for him to return, and it appeared as though he would have been interested in the position.
"I simply felt like everything was coming together to get him back, but the club just couldn't pull it off; Daniel Levy is so typical, isn't he? If Levy had given him some money and said, "Okay, let's try again," and you're going to let him go to Chelsea, then that was the appointment that would have won the fans back. It is absurd.
