Chelsea will finalize Mauricio Pochettino's hiring following a breakthrough in negotiations
According to insiders who spoke to Football Insider, Chelsea will announce their new manager by the end of this week, and Mauricio Pochettino is predicted to get the job.
According to reports, last week saw the finalization of negotiations between the club and the 51-year-old former Tottenham manager, who is eager to take over at Stamford Bridge.
Pochettino has orally accepted to be the new Chelsea manager, according to a report from Football Insider published on April 25.
However, last-minute discussions on his backroom staff and other minor but crucial issues are still going on.
After a miserable 2022–23 season, Chelsea's board has met with a number of prospects amid a protracted hiring process.
Despite being a top target, former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann withdrew from consideration after a breakdown in negotiations. Ruben Amorim of Sporting Lisbon and Luis Enrique were also questioned.
Later on in the selection process, Pochettino emerged as the front-runner and has since informed Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly and his staff that he would be eager to accept the position.
The new manager is expected to take over at the start of the 2022–23 season, but Frank Lampard will serve as interim manager till the completion of the current campaign.
With four different managers in control of the team, Chelsea has had a terrible season.
The board is rumored to be mindful that they cannot afford any more blunders as they move into the next phase of their ownership because of the strain in the Chelsea supporters.
Pochettino most recently oversaw Paris Saint-Germain, and before that, he oversaw 293 games for rivals of Tottenham in London.
In the 2018–19 season, he led Spurs to the Champions League final, where they lost to Liverpool.
