After Chelsea's 4-1 loss to Manchester United, manager Frank Lampard said, "There is talent in the squad, but it was another reality day today."
Frank Lampard, the temporary manager of Chelsea, was dissatisfied with his team's performance after their 4-1 Premier League defeat to Manchester United.
The manager questioned his player's desire to compete at this level once more. He claimed that the players had not been practising at their highest level and sounded resigned to the circumstance.
Chelsea continues to be in the lower half of the Premier League standings. They are having the worst season they have had in 29 years, and they are eager for the season to be over.
The Blues travelled to Old Trafford and initially had some good chances but lost. They persisted in fighting, but United put an end to it.
United might have scored more goals than 4-1, but Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga made several outstanding saves to limit the damage.
According to Lampard, Chelsea's team does not have a tactical issue. He doesn't believe they are in the best point for giving their best effort.
Football London quotes Lampard as saying, "I think the squad is talented. Today, there was another reality. It's a question that, in my opinion, will be posed to you as a top-tier professional when you're acting improperly.
"The only way to respond to that is with your performance, which begins with how you work, train, and prepare. If I'm being completely honest, that's where we fell rather blatantly short.
“There are a lot of reasons for that, that’s not just a dig, that’s because there sometimes are variables. It’s been a tough season, people talk about the squad size, things that are very valid.
"At the same time, coming in this little time, you can see that wonderful things happen and you as an individual develop within that when a group is exercising and it's truly together and pushing and pushing one other.
It is obvious that momentum is not present at the moment.
Lampard stated the issue had plagued the Blues ever since the start of the season.
For the Blues, there was still some hope. Lewis Hall demonstrated that he belongs in premier league football and was Chelsea's best player throughout the contest.
Additionally, Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke made an impression, and Enzo Fernandez keeps up his outstanding performance.
These are the players that the incoming manager, Mauricio Pochettino, should try to assemble for the upcoming season.
