A midfielder in "concrete talks" to join AC Milan this summer signals the beginning of Helsea's team revamp.
According to rumors, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is in negotiations with AC Milan about leaving Chelsea this summer.
The 27-year-old's contract expires in the summer of 2019, and Chelsea is preparing a roster makeover under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino to trim down the excessive 30-plus-man group.
With the help of numerous injuries, including rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament, Loftus-Cheek, who also spent time on loan at Crystal Palace and Fulham, has realized his dream of progressing through the academy and playing for the first team at Stamford Bridge.
The midfield appears to be getting a makeover. While Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, and N'Golo Kante's futures have still to be decided, Jorginho left in January. In the winter window, Conor Gallagher was also mentioned as a potential departure.
However, Loftus-Cheek might be the first to leave this summer, kicking off the organized clean out.
The England international is reportedly in 'concrete talks' with AC Milan, who were eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday at the semi-final stage, according to Fabrizio Romano.
He is the top target for them as they look to rebuild their midfield, which would bring him back together at the San Siro with former Chelsea stars Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud.
Loftus-Cheek is "keen" to move, and it is said that negotiations are "progressing very well."
In order to help the club comply with Financial Fair Play rules and to help balance the books after excessive £600 million expenditures in the previous two transfer windows, Chelsea is prioritizing departures this summer.
Chelsea is also interested in signing a new goalkeeper, midfielder, and striker this summer to improve upon their poor 2022–23 season.
