The new players at Chelsea "regret signing long-term contracts" and "are worried about the club's future."

According to a source, several of Chelsea's recent additions regret signing long-term contracts given the club's complicated situation.

A hallmark of Todd Boehly's administration has been to sign new hires to contracts that are longer than the customary five years.

David Fofana's contract runs through 2029, Benoit Badashille's contract runs through 2030, Mykhailo Mudryk signed an eight-year contract through 2031, while Enzo Fernandez's initial contract has already been extended through 2032.

Many new players were told they would be "key parts of an exciting project" during talks, according to The Athletic, which cited a first-team source.

Although some people who haven't yet established themselves as regulars are starting to "express regret" for committing to such a lengthy spell, this is still early in the process.

However, the fact that they have committed to a long-term contract makes it very challenging to change teams during the summer transfer window and is said to have produced a "unwanted atmosphere" in the locker room.

With more than 30 players on their roster, Chelsea, who are currently in 12th place and are managed by winless interim Frank Lampard, had to expand their locker rooms.

It might be challenging to foster team cohesiveness when athletes workout with a completely different group of teammates every day.

Since buying the team, Boehly has spent more than £600 million and hired four different managers, although the Blues almost certainly won't be playing in Europe the following season, when Mauricio Pochettino is anticipated to be in charge.

A clause stating that players would withhold 30% of their wages if they didn't make the Champions League was accepted by the majority of players recruited during the last two transfer windows.

Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling are excluded because they joined the team before the policy was introduced and are therefore not subject to it because they were signed under the previous administration.

Chelsea will travel to league-leading Arsenal on Tuesday in an effort to snap Lampard's dismal run of results following a humiliating 2-0 home loss to Brentford.
