Wesley Fofana of Chelsea did not win Owen Hargreaves over during yesterday night's loss to Brentford.
Wednesday night's Premier League match between Chelsea and Brentford ended in a 2-0 home setback for the Blues, causing extra anguish for the supporters.
The Blues have now dropped five straight games across all leagues since Frank Lampard took over as interim manager. On Tuesday, we will visit the league's top team, Arsenal.
During the first half, Cesar Azpilicueta's own goal gave the visitors the lead. The winning goal came from Brentford substitute Bryan Mbeumo in the 78th minute.
BT Sport analyst Hargreaves harshly attacked Wesley Fofana's defence during Brentford's goal.
When Mbeumo was driving towards the box, the 22-year-old centre back confronted him, but he let him cut inside to his preferred left foot and shoot goalward.
Make Mbeumo move to his right since he plays with a left foot that is quite strong. Allowing him to enter on his left foot and return there is embarrassing. Make him cross the line and proceed down it. Instead, his body type is completely off, he plays slack defence, and that goal sums up Chelsea's current situation, according to Hargreaves, who spoke to BT Sport 3 at 9:50 p.m. on April 26.
According to us, Fofana has been one of the few bright spots in what has otherwise been a terrible month for Chelsea supporters.
We do concur, though, that his 1v1 goal defence for Mbeumo might have been far better.
We remain optimistic about the French center-half's future because he is still a developing defender who will become better with time and experience.
Chelsea still has six games left in this 2022–23 season, which is unfortunate.
Even though Chelsea's defending last night was questionable, their biggest issue is at the top of the pitch. They have, however, scored just once in their past seven games overall.
