Seasonal understatement, perhaps? Since purchasing Chelsea for £4.25 billion, Todd Boehly acknowledges that "mistakes have been made," as he tells investors about his disastrous first season in charge.
When Todd Boehly took over Chelsea in May 2022 after purchasing the West London club for £4.25 billion, he acknowledged that mistakes had been made during his first season in command.

According to reports, the event was promoted as a chance to learn about the Chelsea owner's plans for the team in advance of the 2023–24 season.

Anthony Gutman, an investment banker at Goldman Sachs, who worked for one of the institutions involved in the acquisition by Boehly and Clearlake Capital last year, was present.

According to sources, Boehly did not go into depth about the specifics of Chelsea's failings over the past 12 months, and neither he nor Gutman wanted to make any additional comments following the talk.

Boehly has presided over the spending of more than half a billion pounds on player transfer fees over the previous two transfer windows since taking control at Chelsea.

The Blues shelled out an eye-popping £323 million in January alone, including a British record cost of £107 million for Enzo Fernandez, £88 million for Mykhaylo Mudryk, £9 million for the services of Joao Felix on loan, and sizeable sums for Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, and Malo Gusto.

With £271 million spent on players like Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Carney Chukwuemeka, the summer transfer window also turned out to be a pricey one.

Additionally, three different managers have held various managerial positions for Chelsea throughout the 2022–23 season.

Despite winning 62 of his 100 matches as manager at Stamford Bridge, Thomas Tuchel was fired in September, just 100 days into Boehly's rule.

Graham Potter was later purchased by Chelsea from Brighton for almost £21 million before being fired at a cost of £13 million at the start of April.

Since Frank Lampard returned to the club as temporary manager, Chelsea has played five games without a victory and has only gained one point in the Premier League.

Real Madrid gave the Champions League quarterfinals a harsh reality check by easily winning both the home and away matches 2-0.

The coaching staff and players have typically borne the brunt of the criticism thus far, but this mentality seems to be shifting in recent weeks.

Boehly was observed arguing with fans during Chelsea's most recent 2-1 Premier League loss to Brighton.

Due to their inconsistent play throughout the season, Chelsea has fallen to 11th place in the league standings and will end the campaign without winning any trophies.

Chelsea cannot win the Premier League because it is mathematically impossible, they have already won the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup for 2022–2023, and they have already been eliminated from the Champions League and the FA Cup.
