Stan Collymore suggests that Lampard'may have persuaded' Mount in favor of a probable transfer to Liverpool.
Stan Collymore has put up a theory about how Frank Lampard "may have persuaded" Mason Mount to consider a transfer to Liverpool.

The Athletic recently claimed that Jurgen Klopp's team are the frontrunners to pull the Chelsea midfielder away from Stamford Bridge amid an impasse over terms of a potential new contract, with his current deal ending next year (Daily Mail). The Reds have been heavily connected with the player recently.

The Merseyside club's history, according to a former Anfield striker, might be a very compelling argument. He also noted that the Blues manager's own experience might possibly tempt the 24-year-old to leave west London.

Collymore said in his Friday piece for CaughtOffside: "I was up at Anfield yesterday as John Barnes had a mural unveiled. One of Ian Callaghan, Jurgen Klopp, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Steven Gerrard, and Phil Neal is just around the bend.

"The area is saturated with great British football history, and it's a convincing argument for a young man who has only experienced Chelsea to travel up north to a real footballing city and see what it's like.

"Interestingly, Frank Lampard may have influenced it in his favor. This may sound strange, but if Mount's advisers say "he's not signing a new deal," and he then asks Frank, "What do you think?"

"Remember that late in his career Frank Lampard went up to Man City and enjoyed that experience of being in a different place."

Mount's career has been greatly influenced by Lampard, who gave him regular playing time while he was on loan at Derby in 2018–19 and subsequently made him a key member of Chelsea’s starting lineup before taking over at Stamford Bridge the following season (Transfermarkt).

The 24-year-old may be more open to a potential move to Anfield if the Chelsea manager does argue that a player like Mount should try his luck with a move outside of the city, as he did with Manchester City and New York City FC toward the end of his playing career.

Could he be persuaded by the solidity of Klopp's long-term ambition on Merseyside after a turbulent past year at Stamford Bridge with changes in management and ownership? And is it possible that his current manager will encourage him to make that change?…
